What is the filling solution of the CS905 non-aqueous Ag/Ag+ reference electrode?

CS905 is non-aqeous Ag/Ag+ electrode. It's used for organic solution environment. The usual filled solution is AgNO3 and AgClO4 iwth concentration of 0.01mol/L~0.1mol/L.

How to make the salt bridge?

(1) Add 1~1.5g agar powder,10g KCl and 30ml instilled water into a beaker. (2) Heat the beaker on the asbestos gauze to 80℃. During the heating, please stir the solution with a glass rod to dissolve all the powder and get rid of buddles in the solution. (3) Stop the heating, and immerse the tip of luggin capillary into the agar solution, and quickly suck some agar solution into the luggin capillary with the rubber suction bulb (please don’t let air in during this process). Then pour some agar solution from the upper port of the luggin capillary till middle of the thick part. Before the agar gets cold, insert the SCE into the agar. When the agar gets cold, add some saturated KCl solution.

How to polish the working electrode?

1. The purpose of polishing As the redox reactions are repeatedly conducted, the products during the reaction will adhere to the surface of the electrode and gradually slow down the electron transfer, which enlarges the potential difference between the oxidation and reduction peak. The purpose of polishing is to remove the redox products adsorbed on the surface of the working electrode, and increase the electron transfer rate to normal. 2. Polishing steps Put a polishing cloth on a glass pad, and give a few drops of polishing liquid on the cloth. The working electrode should be vertically placed on the cloth, and then polish it by drawing “O” or “8” shape. After polishing, wash the electrode surface with distilled water. Note: We provide Alpha alumina powders of three diameters: 1μm/0.3μm / 0.05μm. Use the 1μm firstly and then the smaller ones in order. How to select one exact cycle in the CV curve?

Open the data file of Cyclic Voltammetry, and check "Show", then you can select the data of a specific cycle. Eg: In the following picture from 3 to 3 means that only the third cycle is selected and shown. After you selecting a cycle, you can right click to Export the Active data and save the data of this cycle only.

How to import the data files to Corrtest software?

Open the CS Analysis software, you can drag a data files or multiple data files directly onto the CS Analysis. 2. Or you can click "Open file" to import data file(s). You can find many interfaces to open file. You can also click each curve type(polarization analysis, Impedance analysis etc) and then "open file" to import the data files.

What is three-electrode system?

The three-electrode system consists of a working electrode (WE/SE), a reference electrode (RE) and a counter electrode (CE). The WE and the CE form a polarization circuit, with the current flowing between WE and CE. The WE and the RE form the measurement circuit, and the RE only provides a potential reference without current flowing. Therefore, when conducting the electrochemical measurement, you should use the electrode cable' alligators to clamp the corresponding electrodes. There is no independent RE in the two-electrode system. When using the CS potentiostat/galvanostat for 2-electrode system test, the CE can be regarded as RE to provide a potential reference. During the measurements, the user should connect the RE&CE alligators together to a same electrode.

Cable connection in 3-electrode and 2-electrode system

3- electrode system: Greed & white alligators (WE+SENSE) connect together to working electrode (WE); Red alligator (CE) connects to counter electrode Yellow alligator (RE) connects to reference electrode Most of the time the 2 black wires are not used. Black (GND) connects to galvanic electrode WEⅡ in electrochemical noise experiment. If you use a Faraday cage, black GND & Shield should jointly connect to the cage. 2- electrodes system: The green & white alligators (WE+SENSE) jointly connect to WE or Anode; Red & yellow alligators jointly connect to counter electrode or Cathode. Please pay attention that when you use the CS910 Pt counter electrode, the CE aligator should connect both the red and blue wire.

How to use the potentiostat as a ZRA?

ZRA(zero resistance ammeter) is integrated in all CS series Potentiostats/Galvanostats. There is no voltage or current being applied on the system.Therefore, ZRA can be also called "Open Circuit" technique. The cable connection in ZRA is different than other general electrochemical testings. In ZRA the connection is as follows: - WE&SENSE (green& white) alligators both connect to the sample to be tested(WE I). - The black GND alligator connects to another sample(WE II). - RE(yellow) alligator connects to the reference electrode. - CE(red) alligator is not used. ZRA is usually used for Galvanic corrosion and electrochemical noise (ECN).

How to do Galvanic corrosion and electrochemical noise with Corrtest potentiostat?

Please Choose the electrochemicai Noise technique. Please pay attention that cable connection should be as follows: - WE&SENSE (green& white) alligators both connect to the sample to be tested(WE I). - The black GND alligator connects to another sample(WE II). - RE(yellow) alligator connects to the reference electrode. - CE(red) alligator is not used.

What should be noticed for rebar corrosion measurement in reinforced concrete?

① The connecting part between the embedded rebar and the conductive wire should be sealed with epoxy resin, otherwise the solder joint might affect the results. ② The potentiostat/galvanostat must be grounded (please check whether the ground wire of the power cable is connected to the earth). ③ The concrete block must be insulated from the earth, otherwise there may be current leak to the earth, which affects the results. We suggest that the concrete block is placed in a plastic container. If it's a metallic container, you can put a foam board under it for insulation.
