What is potentiostat used for?

A potentiostat is an electronic instrument used to control the voltage difference between the working electrode(WE) and the reference electrode(RE) in an electrochemical cell, while simultaneously measuring the respinse current that flows between the WE and the counter electrode(CE). It allows researchers to study electrochemical reactions by precisely controlling and monitoring the applied potential and the response current. It contains fast digital function generator, high-speed data acquisition circuitry, a potentiostat and a galvanostat etc.
