How to check if the instrument works normally by dummy cell?

Dummy cell is a simulation cell. It’s used to check whether the potentiostat is normal. When you receive a potentiostat, you can use it to ensure the potentiostat is well-functional. During tests if you find data abnormal or something wrong, you can also use it to check whether it’s caused by your testing system, or by the malfunctioning of the instrument.   1. Firstly, please connect the potentiostat with dummy cell by the electrode cable, and power on the instrument. If there is a white Sense(SEN) cable, you should always connect it with the green WE together. Cable connection is as follows:   2. Open the software, click “Setup” - “Restore Defaults”. Select “Potentiostatic (i-t)” in the “Experiments”. Pay attention to the OCP, and it’s should be 0. Apply 1.1V vs. RE, choose a location to save the data file by “Browse”, then click “OK”. After it runs, please check the displayed potential /current value. If it’s 1.1V and 1mA respectively, it means the test goes normally, indicating the instrument’s potential output is accurate and normal.   3. Similarly, run “Galvanostatic (E-t)”. The OCP should also be 0. Apply 1mA. Please check the displayed current and potential. If it’s 1mA and 1.1V, it means the test runs normally, and the current output is accurate and normal. 4. Run EIS to click Experiments - Impedance - Potentiostatic EIS (Nyquist, Bode). Keep the parameters setting as default and click OK to run EIS. If the instrument is well-functioning, the result should be as follows, presenting a standard semicircle.

How should I install the CS Studio sofware(single-channel potentiostat)?

Single-channel models: CS350M /CS310M / CS300M /CS150M / CS100E 1. Use the USB cable to connect the single-channel potentiostat with a computer. 2. Power on the instrument, open the “software installation” folder in the USB flash drive, right-click the “CS studio6 setup”, and run as administrator.   3. Firstly, install the driver. After finishing it, go to the computer management → device manager→ Ports (COM & LPT). There, it will appear “STM… virtual COM Port(COM x)”, as is shown below. 4. Secondly, install the runtime environment. If your computer has already installed it, there will be a prompt telling you have already installed. If it hasn’t been installed in your computer, just follow the steps to finish installation of runtime. 5. Click install “CS Studio6”. CS Stuido6 is the testing software, and the CS Analysis is the data analysis software.   6. Run the CS Studio6 as administrator, then the model and serial number will be shown on the top of the software. It means the instrument has been successfully connected.   Cable connection 3- electrode system: Greed & white alligators (WE+SENSE) connect together to your working electrode (WE); Red alligator (CE) connects to your counter electrode; Yellow alligator (RE) connects to reference electrode Black (GND) connects to galvanic electrode WEⅡ in electrochemical noise experiment. If you use a Faraday cage, black GND & Shield should jointly connect to the cage.   Electrode cable for single-channel and bi-potentiostat 2- electrodes system: The green & white alligators (WE+SENSE) jointly connect to WE or Anode; Red & yellow alligators jointly connect to another electrode or Cathode.

How should I install bipotentiostat & multichannel potentiostat?

Models: CS2350M/CS2150M /CS310X The installation process is the same for bipotentiostat and multichannel potentiostat   Software installation (1) Use the Ethernet cable to connect the computer with the instrument. Power on the instrument. (2) Open the “software installation” folder, right click the “Setup.exe”, and run as administrator.     (3) For potentiostat more than one channel, we use Ethernet communication. So there is no need to install drivers. Firstly, install the .net 3.5. If your computer has already installed it, there will be a prompt telling you don’t need to install again. If it has not been installed in your computer, just follow the steps to finish installation of .net 3.5.   (4) Click install CS Studio6. CS Stuido6 is the testing software, and the CS Analysis is the data analysis software.     IP address configuration (Windows 10 as an example) Connecting the instrument (Bipotentiostat or multichannel potentiostat) with computer by Ethernet cable, you should reset the IP address of the computer.   (1) Find the “Network and sharing center”     (Or → Network and sharing center)   (2) Click “Ethernet” shown as below:   (3) Click “Properties”, then check “Internet Protocol version 4(TCP/IPv4)”     (4) Fill in the IP address exactly as below:     (5) Open CS Studio6 software, “Setup” → Connection → “Ethernet” →Manual     Please note that for bipotentiostat (CS2350M/CS2150M) and multichannel potentiostat (CS310X), the connection way must be Ethernet. You can check this point firstly in case you find they’re disconnected.   (6) When the bipotentiostat or multichannel potentiostat is successfully connected with the computer, there will be model and serial number shown on the software interface, as is shown below for multichannel potentiostat CS310X:     Cable connection Left: Electrode cable for bi-potentiostat (CS2350M/CS2150M) Right: Electrode cable for multichannel potentiostat(CS310X)   3- electrode system: Greed & white alligators (WE+SENSE) connect together to your working electrode (WE); Red alligator (CE) connects to your counter electrode; Yellow alligator (RE) connects to reference electrode Black (GND) connects to galvanic electrode WEⅡ in electrochemical noise experiment. If you use a Faraday cage, black GND & Shield should jointly connect to the cage.   2- electrodes system: The green & white alligators (WE+SENSE) jointly connect to WE or Anode; Red & yellow alligators jointly connect to another electrode or Cathode.

How to import data files to Origin for graphing?

1. EIS data file graphing in Origin 1.1 Open the ".z60" data file by notepad of your computer You can copy and paste the data to Origin. 1.2 Alternatively, you can also directly import the data file into origin. Open Origin, click "Import Single ASCII",open the data file and choose the EIS data. Sometimes you need to choose All files to find the EIS data file.   1.3 Set coordinates and the functions After importing the data, Z’ and Z’’ are needed. Therefore, just set the E(Y) to be X-axis, and F(Y) to be Y-axis.     Set the formula as shown below, click Apply, and the value of Z’’ is absolute value, click OK. 1.4 Use Z’, Z’’ two columns for graphing.   2. Polarization curve data files graphing in Origin 2.1 Import the ".cor" data file Open the Origin, click "Import Single ASCII" and choose the data needing graphing.   2.2 Set the coordinate and functions formula Right-click column A, choose "set as Y".   Similarly, Right-click column B, Set as X. Please pay attention that you need to convert the X-axis current data to be log data. Right click on column B, and choose "Set column values". F(x)→Math→log(x)→abs(x)→Col(B)→Apply→OK 2.3 Choose column A and B to get the following graph: 3. Import the M-S curve data to Origin 3.1 Import the data 3.2 Set the coordinate and function formula Set the column G to be Csc-2,that is, (2πfZ’’)2 Set the column C to be X-axis, and column G Y-axis.   3.3 Choose the column C and G, to get the following graph:
